Phil’s Weekly Editorials
January 10, 2010

As we enter a new year, Canadians have every reason to feel optimistic about our Country’s future. We are about to play host to the world with the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver. Canada’s Economic Action Plan is working and our economy is starting to improve. Federal taxes are at their lowest level in 30 years, businesses are starting to grow and jobs are being created.

In Brant, the federal government has delivered more than $75 million in stimulus funding over the past year, paving the way for job creation, infrastructure renewal and long-term economic growth. In addition, as MP, my efforts to strengthen relationships with Six Nations and New Credit Territorial Elected Councils and Leaders have resulted in funding for enhanced services such as the new Six Nations water treatment plant and police station. We have also taken positive steps with respect to land claim settlements.

Make no mistake, there is much more to do. As your MP, I am committed, along with our Conservative Government, to improving our Country’s economy and seeking out every opportunity to improve Brant’s long-term economic prospects for the city, county and First Nation’s territories. In addition, my goal remains the same, to represent the constituents of Brant with one strong voice in Ottawa, taking initiative and leadership at every opportunity as a member of the Standing Committees on Veteran’s Affairs and Public Safety & National Security. As well, as Vice Chair of the Conservative Post Secondary Education Caucus, I will continue to advocate for the involvement of the Federal Government in post-secondary education and the building of educational infrastructure in Brant and across the nation.
