Phil McColeman Launches Proud To Be Canadian Campaign

The 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games galvanized Canadians and produced a rush of patriotism that this country has never experienced before. With their faces painted in red and white and Canadian flags draped over their backs, Canadians danced in the streets in celebration of our great nation.  It was truly a transformation and a new kind of Canadian patriotism that was born.

As Canadians, we need to continue with this momentum and demonstrate our pride and patriotism. Now through to Canada Day, we can do that by participating in the Proud to be Canadian campaign. The objective of the campaign is to have as many households in Canada, as possible, display the Canadian flag during the weeks leading up to and including Canada Day.

In addition, ridings that participate in the campaign are being entered into a contest for the title of Most Patriotic Riding in Canada. The riding with the highest percentage of residences displaying a Canadian flag on Canada Day will be declared the winner and will be announced in the House of Commons when Parliament resumes in the fall.

Once again this year, residents of Brant can show their pride by participating in the Proud to be Canadian campaign. It’s easy, just look for the Canadian flag in the summer edition of my newsletter that you would have received this past week. Cut it out and place it on either your window or door so that it is visible to pedestrians on the street. Then complete the accompanying reply card, indicating your participation in the program, and mail it to my office. Please note that there is no postage required.  The level of participation in each riding will be measured using the reply cards that are returned.

Last year, Brant came in third, competing against more than 30 ridings across Canada! My hope is that by Canada Day this year, every household in our riding will have a Canadian flag on display. Let’s show Canada that Brant is the most patriotic riding in the country!
