Brant MP Phil McColeman brings petition for Memorial Wall to Brantford
October 28, 2009
Brant MP Phil McColeman wants to see the establishment of a Memorial Wall to honour Canada`s fallen soldiers and peacekeepers. He`s asking residents of Brant to sign a petition in support of the idea. “As a member of the Standing Committee on Veteran’s Affairs, I strongly support this initiative and the work of my colleague Daryl Kramp.” McColeman said. Mr. Kramp, MP for Prince Edward-Hastings, recently introduced the motion for a Memorial Wall to Parliament. “More than 115, 000 soldiers and peacekeepers have their graves in 75 different countries around the world,” said Mr. Kramp. As their remains cannot be repatriated to Canada, the Memorial Wall “would see all of their names inscribed forever so they can be honoured and remembered and given the proper recognition by fellow Canadians.” McColeman said he is “pleased to bring the petition, in support of Mr. Kramp’s Private Member’s Bill, to his constituents. I am hoping the Brant community will join me and get behind Bill C- 454.” Copies of the petition are available for signing at McColeman’s constituency office. They have also been delivered to the area’s local legions. Signatures are requested before November 13, 2009, as the Bill comes up for debate on November 17, 2009. |
