Veteran’s Affairs Minister Honours Local Veterans In Brant
November 07, 2009

The Honourable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs, joined Brant MP Phil McColeman today in honouring local Veterans at the annual Thank-A-Vet Luncheon in Brantford.

"It was a great honour to be in Brantford to meet so many of our nation's truest heroes," said Minister Thompson. "The Thank-A-Vet Luncheon is a perfect way for the community to express our country's unending gratitude to the men and women who have always been there to serve and defend Canada."

While in Brantford, Minister Thompson also confirmed the federal government's contribution of up to $5,000 toward the cost of the lunch -- which is served, complimentary, to Veterans, their spouses and Veterans' widows.

“I am thrilled that the Minister was able to join us today and pay tribute to our local veterans,” said McColeman. “The lunch is a great way for our community to kick off Veterans' Week.”

McColeman, who is a member of the Standing Committee on Veteran’s Affairs, said the Minister also took time, yesterday, to meet members of the Brant-Haldimand-Norfolk Military Institute.  “He attended a meet-and-greet session at one of their regularly scheduled meetings," said McColeman.

Veteran’s Week officially started on November 5th and runs until Remembrance Day.
“Hundreds of commemorative ceremonies and events are taking place across the country to honour the achievements of our Veterans and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice,” said McColeman.
