March 05, 2010

(Burford)
– Brant MP Phil McColeman and the Chair of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food, Larry Miller, were joined by twenty local politicians and members of Brant County’s agricultural community today at a round table discussion in Burford to discuss issues affecting the farmers of Brant.
“This is an opportunity for us to listen to the rural community of Brant,” said McColeman. “We have wide representation from the various local agricultural sectors here today.”

MP Larry Miller, who represents the riding of Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, has a long history of working with the agricultural sector. Miller, a former farmer himself, sat as a Government representative on the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food from 2004 to 2008. Today he is the designated Chair of the Committee. He was also the founding Chair of the National Rural/Agriculture Caucus and remains Chair to this day.

Brant County has a large and diverse agricultural community,” said Miller. “As Chair the Agriculture and Agri-Food Committee, I am thrilled to have an opportunity to meet local farmers and representatives of this sector to discuss the unique issues affecting this area.”

Today’s round table was attended by key representatives of Brant’s agricultural community, including representatives from the dairy, beef, pork, grain and oil seeds sectors.
