Government of Canada Invests in the Arts in Brantford
March 26, 2010
BRANTFORD, Ontario – On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, Phil McColeman, Member of Parliament for Brant, today announced $10,800 in funding for Brantford’s Find Your Spirit – Celebrate the Artist Weekend.

“Our Government recognizes the importance of arts and culture in our community,” said McColeman. “This investment provides Brantford with an opportunity to showcase its artists and celebrate its local talent.”

On June 4 and 5, the Brantford Arts Block will present its 3rd annual edition of the event, which will feature theatre and dance performances, visual art installations, poetry readings, and spoken word performances.

“Our Government is proud to support Brantford’s Find Your Spirit – Celebrate the Artist Weekend,” said Minister Moore. “Community-based celebrations like this one find a place in our collective memories. They play an important role in creating a sense of belonging among residents and connecting us to our communities and ultimately to our country.”

“We would like to thank the Government of Canada for their generous support,” said Josh Bean, Executive Director of the Brantford Arts Block. “This funding will allow us to continue the recruitment of artists and further our outreach to the community as part of our yearly celebration of arts and culture.”

The Brantford Arts Block received the grant after making application to the Government of Canada’s Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program.  The program is delivered through the Department of Canadian Heritage and provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in activities that celebrate local arts, culture, history and heritage.
