(Ottawa) -Brant MP, Phil McColeman, visited the Polish Embassy in Ottawa today and met with Ambassador Zenon Kosiniak-Kamysz to sign the book of condolences and mark Canada’s National Day of Mourning, following the tragic death of Lech Kaczynski, President of Poland, who died in a plane crash last Saturday. The President’s wife, First Lady Maria Kaczynska was also killed in the crash, along with a delegation of Polish political, military and civil society leaders.
In a statement, Mr. McColeman said:
“It is with profound sadness that I stand in solidarity today with the people of Poland and the Polish-Canadian community. Almost one million Canadians, including my wife, are of Polish origin. Brantford and Brant County are blessed with a thriving and vibrant Polish-Canadian community. It is with deepest sympathy that I offer my sincerest condolences to them and to all who mourn the loss of those who perished in this terrible tragedy.”
Mr. McColeman will attend a special Memorial Mass, along with Prime Minister Stephen Harper, in Mississauga this evening. The Archbishop of Toronto, His Grace Thomas Collins, will be presiding.
