Government of Canada Supports Canada Day Celebrations in Brantford and St. George

(Brantford) – Brant MP, Phil McColeman, has announced $18,000 in federal funding for Celebrate Canada festivities in Brantford and St. George. Mr. McColeman made the announcement today on behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.
“The Celebrate Canada festivities that culminate with Canada Day have become a wonderful tradition in this country,” said Mr. McColeman. “They provide Canadians with an opportunity to gather in their respective communities and celebrate our country’s heritage.”
The City of Brantford is receiving $10,000 for Canada Day Celebrations. Twenty five thousand people are expected to participate in events that include a Citizenship Ceremony, entertainment, local artisan displays and fireworks.
The St. George Fire Fighter’s Association is receiving $8,000 to celebrate Canada Day. Approximately six thousand people are expected to participate in events that will include a community pancake breakfast and fireworks.
Federal funding for Canada Day celebrations is provided through the Celebrate Canada component of the Celebrations and Commemorations Program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. Celebrate Canada festivities begin on June 21, 2010 and conclude on July 1, 2010. In addition to Canada Day, they include National Aboriginal Day on June 21, Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day on June 24 and Canadian Multiculturalism Day on June 27, 2010.
