(Brant) June 5, 2009/ - County residents will soon be able to enjoy a rehabilitated County Rd. 16 thanks to a joint effort announced today by the federal, provincial and municipal governments.
Brant MP Phil McColeman and Brant MPP Dave Levac were on hand Friday to announce that the federal and provincial governments will each inject $2.1 million into the project, with the County funding the balance.
“This is really good news for the County,” said Mayor Ron Eddy. “This investment by the federal and provincial governments is most appreciated, and we’ll be putting this money to work immediately.”
Through Canada’s Economic Action Plan, the federal government has established a new $4-billion Infrastructure Stimulus Fund that provides funding to provincial, territorial and municipal construction-ready infrastructure rehabilitation projects. Funding to Ontario communities, which will be matched by the government of Ontario as part of its 2009 provincial budget, Confronting the Challenge: Building our economic Future, is available for two years for projects that will be built during the 2009 and 2010 construction seasons.
“This funding is about more than just asphalt,” said McColeman. “This is about getting people back to work and about building infrastructure that will make us even stronger coming out of the global economic slow down.”
"Today we continue the very smart trend of working together, co-operating, and being respectful partners to build a better community at all three levels of government,” said MPP Levac. It's what the public expects and wants. This project was proposed by the County. Congratulations to all County staff, stakeholders, County Councillors, the Mayor, Provincial and Federal officials for getting things right."
