Community Shred
May 30, 2011

(Brant) May 30, 2011 – Brant MP Phil McColeman announced today plans for the first Community Shred; a new service to be offered by the newly re-elected MP.

This new service represents an extension of efforts undertaken by Phil McColeman since 2008 to offer exceptional service to Brant constituents.  Building on services such as Passport and Tax Preparation Clinics, McColeman is partnering with the local authorities and Shred-It to help raise awareness on the prevention of identity theft and consumer fraud, and to provide constituents with an opportunity to safely dispose of documents containing sensitive information.

This will be a free ongoing service offered to Brant constituents.  Voluntary donations of non-perishable food items from participants will be accepted to support Brantford’s Community Resource Service Food Bank.  Representatives from local law-enforcement and the Brantford-Brant Crime Stoppers will be present to help raise awareness about identity theft and how residents can protect themselves.

“This new service will present a win-win situation for our community”, said McColeman. “It creates an opportunity to support those in our community in need by encouraging donations to the Food Bank, while providing residents with the opportunity to dispose of documents that might otherwise fall into the wrong hands.”

The first event will take place on June 25th, from 10:00am to 1:00pm at the rear parking lot of Phil McColeman’s Constituency Office, located at 505 Park Road North.
