BRANTFORD, ONTARIO—Families and individuals in Brantford working towards building a stronger future for themselves are getting help from the Government of Canada. Mr. Phil McColeman, Member of Parliament for Brant, made the announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development.

“Our government is giving a hand-up to Canadians with housing needs, and is helping those seeking to break free from the cycle of homelessness and poverty,” said Mr. McColeman. “We are pleased to support the City of Brantford Housing Department in its efforts to find local solutions to local problems. By working together, we are creating community projects and partnerships to improve and develop services and facilities for homeless and at-risk individuals.”

“Stable, safe and affordable housing is critical for everyone,” said His Worship Chris Friel, Mayor of the City of Brantford. “While homelessness and its related issues are interwoven and complex, there is much we can do to help. With this funding from the Government of Canada, we look forward to working with our community in making a better life for its most vulnerable citizens.”

From April 1, 2011, to March 31, 2014, the City of Brantford Housing Department will distribute Homelessness Partnering Strategy funding of $398,820 to local organizations for the development of transitional, supportive or emergency housing and support services for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in Brantford.
