ST. GEORGE, ONTARIO – The Government of Canada is investing in a project that will process domestic animal fats from local butchers into usable products, decreasing landfill, create jobs and support other local businesses. The investment of up to $250,000 was announced today by Member of Parliament Phil McColeman (Brant), on behalf of Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz.
"This is a win-win for the rural community of Brant County, local food suppliers and the environment," said MP McColeman. "In addition to creating six full-time manufacturing jobs, this project will directly benefit local contractors, butchers and biofuel industry. This is just one more example of the smart investments our Government is making in this region.”
Tim Co Food Limited will process domestic animal fats into edible and inedible oils, pet food and fertilizer ingredients using by-products from local meat butchers. The primary product, edible oils, will be marketed to food production and restaurant supply companies. The inedible oils will be used for bio fuel production. With these products being processed into usable products, this means less landfill and benefits for the local butchers who are currently paying to have the products disposed of. The company will also install and improve plant equipment using local contractors. The plant will be located in St. George and will create six full-time manufacturing jobs in Brant County.
This capital is being provided through the Sand Plains Community Development Fund administered by the Ontario Association of Community Futures Development Corporations. The fund targets community-based initiatives that support regional development, attract and retain people and investment, and stimulate business development and job creation.
