Government of Canada Launches Canada Summer Jobs 2011
February 01, 2011

Brantford, Ontario – The Government of Canada launched its Canada Summer Jobs 2011 program today to help employers create job opportunities for students.
“The economy remains our number one priority,” said Brant MP, Phil McColeman. “That’s why we are creating thousands of new jobs for young Canadians, so that they can find employment and gain the skills and experience they need to succeed.”

Funding for the Canada Summer Jobs program is available to not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses (with fewer than 50 employees) to create high-quality summer job opportunities for young people aged 15 to 30 years, who are full-time students and intend to return to school in the next year.

Applications must be submitted by February 28, 2011. Interested employers can apply online at www.servicecanada.gc.ca/csj2011 or at their local Service Canada Centre.

In 2010, the Government of Canada concluded agreements with approximately 22,000 organizations to fund about 37,000 summer jobs for students. Starting in 2011, the Government is permanently increasing the budget for Canada Summer Jobs by $10 million, bringing the total program budget to $107.5 million.

Canada Summer Jobs is an important part of the Government’s long-term Youth Employment Strategy, which helps young people get the tools, skills and work experience they need to make a successful transition to the workplace.
