February 18, 2011

Burford, Ontario
– Thanks to the federal government, a Burford publishing company has received a financial boost to increase its magazine’s circulation. A grant in the amount $24, 874 has been awarded to Sawdust Media Inc. by the Department of Canadian Heritage. The announcement was made today by Phil McColeman, Member of Parliament for Brant, on behalf of The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage & Official Languages.

“We’re helping magazine publishers adapt to the changing market place,” said Mr. McColeman.  “With the advances in on-line publishing, it’s important that magazines and digital periodical publishers be innovative in their efforts to increase circulation.”

Sawdust Media Inc. will use the funding to increase its paid circulation of Canadian Woodworking magazine.

“Canadian Woodworking Magazine is a publication aimed at helping woodworkers to improve their woodworking skills,” said Publisher, Linda Fulcher. “This funding will allow our magazine to reach potential Canadian readers which it would not have the resources to do otherwise.”

The project is being funded through the Canada Periodical Fund’s Business Innovation component which encourages innovation to adapt to changing market conditions and contributes to the diversity of content sought by Canadian readers.
