
Brantford, Ontario — Phil McColeman, Member of Parliament for Brant, announced more than a half million dollars in federal grants today for six companies located in Brant. Mr. McColeman made the announcement on behalf of the Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State for Science and Technology.
“Our government is supporting Canadian businesses that successfully develop innovative technologies,” said Mr. McColeman. “Through Canada’s Economic Action Plan we’re supporting scientific research and commercialization, while creating good jobs and economic growth.”
The total federal contributions in Brant amount to $541,479 and are being delivered through the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP), which provides support to innovative companies in Canada that are undertaking research and technology development projects for commercial purposes. NRC-IRAP has received an incremental investment of $200 million over two years, through Canada’s Economic Action Plan, to support innovative Canadian companies.
The following companies in Brant are in receipt of contributions from NRC-IRAP:
Mitten Inc. - $72,500
Mitten Inc. is a plastic product manufacturing company.
Saint-Gobain Advanced Ceramics- $115,979
Saint-Gobain Advanced Ceramics produces a number of high-performance materials for the construction, building distribution and packaging industries.
Rescraft Plastics Products Inc. – $30,000
Rescraft Plastics Products Inc. provides material processing services to recycle materials and develop new compounds. It also manufactures and distributes rotational moulding.
Apogee Engineered Ceramics Inc. - $173,000
Apogee Engineered Ceramics delivers high-quality, low cost ceramics for a number of industries around the world.
Germiphene Corp. - $100,000
Germiphene Corp. manufactures and distributes new technologies, products and pharmaceutical equipment for the health care industry.
Micro-Mould - $50,000
Micro-Mould manufactures injection moulds and provides custom machining solutions.
The Industrial Research Assistance Program provides a range of both technical and business-oriented advisory services along with necessary financial support to qualified innovative Canadian small and medium sized enterprises.
The program is delivered by a field staff of 240 professionals in more than 100 communities across Canada. Through this program, the National Research Council is committed to working with small and medium sized enterprises to help them realize their full potential, turning knowledge and innovation into strategic opportunities, jobs and prosperity for all Canadians.
