Government of Canada Supports Innovative Research & Development in Brantford

December 3, 2010, Brantford, Ontario ― Phil McColeman, Member of Parliament for Brant, announced close to $150,000 in federal grants today for three Brantford companies. Mr. McColeman made the announcement on behalf of the Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State for Science and Technology.

“Our government is supporting Canadian businesses that develop ground-breaking technologies,” said Mr. McColeman. “Through developing and applying innovative technologies, these companies are linking scientific research to commercialization, skilled jobs and economic growth right here in Brantford.”

Today’s announced federal contributions in Brantford amount to $144,750. The following companies are in receipt of the contributions:

Crown Verity Inc. - $58,200

Pro Quip International - $49,000

Ball Media Corporation - $37,500


The funding is being delivered through the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP). IRAP a range of both technical and business-oriented advisory services along with necessary financial support to qualified innovative Canadian small and medium sized enterprises. The program is delivered by a field staff of 240  more than 100 communities across Canada. Through this program, the National Research Council is committed to working with small and medium sized enterprises to help them realize their full potential, turning knowledge and innovation into strategic opportunities, jobs and prosperity for all Canadians.


The Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan provided new resources of $200 million to IRAP over two years to support innovative Canadian firms.
