Tickets sold out at the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre where fans had an opportunity to participate in a pre-game skate with local hockey heroes, interactive games like the RBC “Play Hockey Shootout”, an autograph signing session and interactive displays put on by the Hockey Hall of Fame and the Zamboni Company.
The Charity game ended in a 13-7 victory for the “East Team” led by Zac Dalpe, but not before an epic display of skill and talent by Buford’s Adam Henrique on the “West Team” including an exciting penalty shot goal.
All proceeds from ticket and raffle ticket sales, Hockey Night in Brantford memorabilia sales and corporate donations and sponsorship went in support of the Brant United Way. At the end of the game, it was announced that Hockey Night in Brantford had raised $70,000 which will support the United Way and its member agencies.
“The atmosphere in that arena was absolutely electric,” said Brant MP and West Team goalie Phil McColeman. “It was incredibly special to see the community come together in such a significant way to celebrate the game that we all love and to give back to those who are in need.”
McColeman made it clear that he would be building on the success of this inaugural charity game to make Hockey Night in Brantford an annual community event.
