Merry Christmas 2014

December 22, 2014

The Christmas season is upon us once again and it's a wonderful time of year. We can relax and be with our loved ones, celebrate our faith, reflect on our good fortune that we live in the greatest country in the world.

Of all the joys of the season, perhaps none is more satisfying than the joy of giving. Not just the gifts exchanged between family and friends, but the gifts of time, money and effort many give to people less fortunate than ourselves. That spirit of generosity is one of the things that defines us as Canadians.

Now is the time to slow down for a few short days and take stock of what's important; our families, our friends and our good fortune - to live and prosper in a land of abundance where life is safe, and life is good.

Do those things that you've had to put off because we are living our lives in this fast paced, hectic world, full of cell phones and computers, family schedules and work. Now is the time to renew old acquaintances, give extra hugs to your kids, go visit your neighbour, share some fellowship at work and perform a random act of kindness.

It’s also a time to reflect on the year which has passed. Our country has been tremendously blessed, many sacrifices have been made and as always, there is much to be done but also much to be grateful for.

If you do one thing this year, do this: make Christmas a special time for your family and friends. And better still....make it special for a stranger; someone who is not so fortunate, someone who is hungry, or sick, or lonely.

On behalf of my family, my staff, and myself, Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, and best wishes for a healthy and happy new year.
